    Geração de energia através da biomassa dos resíduos sólidos urbanos: um caminho para o desenvolvimento sustentável?

    The energy generation through renewable sources has been the subject of worldwide discussion regarding sustainable development, because energy permeates all sectors of society - economy, labor, environment, international relations, housing, health food, transportation, leisure, etc. Thus, the present work sought to analyze in the light of public policies in Brazil the instruments for the feasibility of projects of energy generation through urban solid waste, as well as the benefits and challenges for its replication. In order to do so, the National Policy on Climate Change was analyzed, which sets goals and objectives for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Brazil, the Program for Incentive to Alternative Energy Sources of Electricity, which directs the incentive for the production of renewable energies, including biomass of solid urban waste, and the National Solid Waste Policy, which seeks to bring the mechanisms to enable the energy exploitation of this input. What could be verified is that given the specificity of this energy input, the political instruments now in place need to be better articulated and interconnected in order to enable the scheduling of projects related to the production of energy through urban solid waste. A specific public policy for biogas at the national level could foster this market.
