Professional training is essential for quality work. Government Schools make a major contribution to the training of professionals in the public sector. Public health is one of the areas that demands constant improvement, given the complex scenario in which it finds itself. In light of this situation, the National Policy for Continuing Education in Health was established in 2004, which understands that learning occurs on a daily basis, in the workplace, but also recognizes training in formal courses and, for this purpose, uses educational institutions, including Government Schools. The Minas Gerais State School of Public Health (ESP-MG) is one of these institutions and has been offering courses for public health professionals since its creation. This research consists of a case study on ESP-MG, highlighting two points of observation, which are the creation of the SUS and the changes it brought to the trajectory of ESP-MG and the use of Distance Education for the development of its training activities. What can be seen is the rapid increase in the number of trained people in recent years, which, at the same time, reveals the potential of distance learning for the development of its activities and signals its consolidation within the institution as a means of increasing its capillarity.
