dc.description.abstractO artigo analisa os vínculos entre a exploração do lítio no Vale do Jequitinhonha e a transição energética, examinando como tais processos inscrevem-se na lógica da modernização ecológica e do chamado “consenso da descarbonização”. A partir da metodologia qualitativa de análise de documentos, trabalho de campo e etnografia de audiências e reuniões, observa-se a conformação de uma geopolítica empresarial, consolidada na narrativa celebratória do “Vale do Lítio” e na promessa de prosperidade ancorada em soluções de mercado para a crise do clima. Ao retomar a trajetória histórica do desenvolvimento sustentável como narrativa legitimadora, o texto mostra que o modelo atual de transição energética não rompe com o padrão do neoextrativismo, mas, sim, o atualiza. Reformas legais, flexibilizações regulatórias e coalizões parlamentares convergem para acelerar licenciamentos, reduzir incertezas mercantis e alinhar os ritmos da política ao capital. Com base na perspectiva teórica da ecologia política e da justiça ambiental, mostra-se como os chamados “efeitos derrame” transcendem os impactos físicos e socioeconômicos, atingindo marcos regulatórios, práticas democráticas e direitos territoriais. Conclui-se que, sob a retórica da “mineração em benefício do clima”, a transição energética reproduz desigualdades ambientais e naturaliza a formação de novas zonas de sacrifício.
dc.description.abstractenThe article analyzes the links between lithium exploitation in the Jequitinhonha Valley and the energy transition, examining how these processes are inscribed within the logic of ecological modernization and the so-called “decarbonization consensus”. Drawing on a qualitative methodology that combines document analysis, fieldwork and ethnography of public hearings and meetings, the study observes the consolidation of a corporate geopolitics built around the celebratory narrative of the “Lithium Valley” and through the hope of prosperity anchored in market to the climate crisis. By revisiting the historical trajectory of sustainable development as a legitimizing narrative, the text demonstrates that the current model of energy transition does not break with the pattern of neo-extractivism but rather updates it. Legal reforms, regulatory flexibilization and parliamentary coalitions converge to accelerate licensing, reduce market uncertainties and align the rhythms of politics with capital. Based on the theoretical perspective of political ecology and environmental justice, the article shows how the so-called “spillover effects” transcend physical and socioeconomic impacts, reaching regulatory frameworks, democratic practices and territorial rights. It concludes that, under the rhetoric of “mining for the climate” the energy transition reproduces environmental inequalities and naturalizes the formation of new sacrifice zones.
